The right prize turns a casual prediction league into something people genuinely care about. The wrong one — or none at all — and half your league stops making their picks by November. The good news: the best prizes are rarely expensive. They're memorable, visible, and slightly ridiculous.
Free prizes that work better than money
- The trophy that lives on the winner's desk. A cheap engraved cup, a golden boot from a sports shop, or something absurd from a charity shop. The point is that it's visible all year and it moves.
- Naming rights: the winner renames the league (or the group chat) for the whole of next season.
- The champion's photo pinned somewhere prominent until someone dethrones them.
- Loser hosts: the bottom-placed player organises (or caters) the end-of-season gathering.
- A perpetual honours board — a simple list of past winners is the cheapest tradition you can start, and after three seasons it feels like history.
Prizes with a small budget

Don't forget the wooden spoon
A last-place tradition keeps the bottom half of the table fighting to the final gameweek. An actual wooden spoon (engraved, ideally), a dreadful trophy that must be displayed, or a forfeit chosen by the winner all work. The battle to avoid last place is often fiercer than the title race.
